August 14: A tragic boat accident
occurred yesterday evening in the Ganges near Howrah. According to an
eyewitness, the boat was carrying about thirty passengers, and capsized due to
overloading and strong river currents. At once Local fishermen rushed to the
spot and rescued twenty people. Unfortunately, five bodies were recovered, and
the rest are still missing. The NDRF and police launched rescue operations
immediately. The government has announced compensation for the victims’
families and ordered an inquiry into the incident. Steps are being taken to
ensure passenger safety in future boat services.
